Removing MIM/FIM Service after removing Sharepoint

I removed Sharepoint from the FIM service (don’t do this!) and then I wanted to remove FIM service. The uninstall just kept failing.  And it would not allow you to install as well. Its looking for the Portal parts. So I had to do manual cleanup (Risky). I did a complete remove of MIM, this was Dev and early stages so I could afford that.

  1. Delete the FIM service and portal folders
  2. Delete the FIM service database
  3. Delete MIM references in the registry, search for the text “Service and Portal”. Including remove from the uninstall list, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall.

Reboot and you should be good.

  1. Hi Ike, could you please share the references that you had to remove in the regedit? I am facing the same issue – cannot install and uninstall. Please!

  2. seen that a few times. database corruption? try restarting the SQL server. There could also be some corrupt records in the CS in which case its a long story to track them down and clean up.That’s where lithnet-miis PS is useful.
