I removed Sharepoint from the FIM service (don’t do this!) and then I wanted to remove FIM service. The uninstall just kept failing. And it would not allow you to install as well. Its looking for the Portal parts. So I had to do manual cleanup (Risky). I did a complete remove of MIM, this was Dev and early stages so I could afford that.
- Delete the FIM service and portal folders
- Delete the FIM service database
- Delete MIM references in the registry, search for the text “Service and Portal”. Including remove from the uninstall list, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall.
Reboot and you should be good.
Hi Ike, could you please share the references that you had to remove in the regedit? I am facing the same issue – cannot install and uninstall. Please!

seen that a few times. database corruption? try restarting the SQL server. There could also be some corrupt records in the CS in which case its a long story to track them down and clean up.That’s where lithnet-miis PS is useful.
